What to Expect at Your First Pelvic Exam

Your first pelvic exam can feel intimidating — but at Be. Women’s Health in Frisco, TX, we make sure it feels comfortable, respectful, and never rushed.

Here’s exactly what happens:

1. A conversation first
Before anyone touches anything, we talk. About your cycle, symptoms, sexual health, concerns — or anything you don’t want done today. You’re always in control.

2. A gentle external exam
We look at the vulva to check for irritation, infection, or skin changes. No speculum yet.

3. The speculum exam
A small, lubricated speculum helps us look at the cervix and collect a Pap smear if needed. It may feel like pressure, not pain. You choose the pace — and you can ask to stop anytime.

4. The bimanual exam
We check the uterus and ovaries with a gloved hand to assess size, tenderness, or abnormalities.

Throughout the exam:
We explain everything, get your consent, and make sure your comfort comes first.

Your first pelvic exam is simply the beginning of understanding your body — not a test you have to pass.
